Secondary School Teachers

Secondary School Teachers teach one or more National Curriculum subjects to young people aged 11-18.

Key Stages and age groups:

Key Stage 3-ages 11-14 (Years 7-9)

Key Stage 4-ages 14-16 (Years 10-11)

The Role of a Supply Teacher:

For day to day, short-term cover, you may find that you are covering classes that are not your specialist subject therefore you may not be expected to carry out 'specified work'; but to classroom manage, maintain discipline and ensure that pre-prepared work is being completed by pupil.

A School may request a subject specialist for short-term cover therefore you would be expected to teach your subject and carry out some aspects of 'specified work'.

Affinity Education proactively assists our registered Supply Teachers in securing you long term teaching posts. Generally long-term cover is required to cover a period of maternity leave or long-term sickness. Once you are placed within a long-term booking as a subject specialist, you would be expected to fully carry out 'specified work'. This means, planning, preparing and delivering

lessons to pupils and assessing and reporting on the development, progress and attainment of pupils. This may include attending departmental meetings and parent evenings.

We register Secondary Teachers who are registered with the EWC under the category of ‘School Teacher’.

Working with Affinity Education, you will be paid a minimum of Main Scale 2 in accordance with the School Teachers Pay and Conditions (Wales) Document. If the criteria of Agency Workers Regulations (AWR) are met, an increased pay rate will be applied following the qualifying period.
